Going home...

After a few days in the hospital, we were ready to leave.
They wheeled me to the door in a wheelchair and I held Rohan tightly as I waited for Michael to bring the car to the entrance.

It was a wednesday afternoon and it was bright and sunny outside also very very windy!

Waiting in the corridor between the entrance door and the door to the backwing, it was like standing (sitting) in a windtunnel! Sitting there waiting to face the elements, the blinding sunlight seemed too harsh for our new boy's eyes and I shielded him with my shawl.

As we fumbled around loading Rohan in the car for the first time, the wind was wiping so hard, our hair was flying everywhere. I remember worrying that Rohan would get a dust particle in his eye. But finally, we were ready to go!

I wanted to sit in the backseat so I could watch the baby and Michael strongly agreed. We couldn't imagine, our brand new baby just sitting there in the carset in the back all by himself. In fact, for weeks and weeks afterwards, we would drive like this; baby and I in the back, and Michael chauffeuring us around. hehehe

Being in the hospital all this time, just our little family, it had been like being wrapped in a warm dark cocoon, time seemed to have stopped around us.

And now, leaving with a brand new human being in tow, the world felt brand new and otherworldly, like that scene in Star Trek when Kirk first steps out onto the Genesis Planet from that dark cave.
We felt exhilarated and full of wonder, but it was also distinctly surreal...

The short drive felt strange to us. We had driven this route many times for doctor's appointments, yet had never felt so nervous driving home before.

We could fell every bump and thump on the road. Michael and I kept commenting that the people on the road just 'need to slow down already and keep their distance!'. Didn't they realize that something monumental in our lives was going on? ;)

When we arrived home, mom (patti) was waiting to give us a big welcome! When we came in she said 'Lunch is ready, but what took so long?" hehehe

Perhaps two very nervous parents facing a brand new world?
